Steps to Calm Inner Turmoil

There are many ways to calm inner turmoil. One of the most direct ways is to give up using your external world as your point of reference. When you use someone or something in the external as your point of reference, you AUTOMATICALLY create apprehension and anxiety.

1. Which of these common external points of reference are you most likely to use: your finances, to-do list, physical appearance, career, spouse, child, parent, boss; current or future events?

2. Practice noticing that having external points of reference automatically creates inner turmoil. Notice again and again and again. Follow “noticing” with the steps below.

  • Recognize when you are using an external point of reference.
  • REST INTO YOUR BODY and breathe.
  • Let your energy expand so that you have more sensation throughout your body. This helps you have your Self as your point of reference.
  • Practice throughout the day. Step-by-step, depth, clarity, and physical presence become your point of reference.
